Your Mama Loves the Rabbit Air BioGS HEPA Air Purifier

Earlier this year, we learned that my preschooler suffers from dozens of environmental allergies, ranging from dust mites to oak pollen to pet dander. His allergist put him on a daily dose of antihistamines and a nasal steroid spray. As someone who tries to go green and live a vaguely healthy lifestyle, all this medication for my son really bothered me. I asked what we could be doing naturally, and the allergist said that it was absolutely crucial that we use a HEPA air purifier at home.

I did some research and learned that Rabbit Air is considered one of the premiere brands. The reviews on Amazon.com were great. I mean, check this out:

“My room is just so much nicer now and although it can’t follow me around and take care of my allergies the rest of the day, it let’s me get a good night’s sleep, which is all I could ask for.”

I love this review because, WHAT, CATS CAN HAVE ASTHMA?

“I could not be happier. I could immediately tell the difference, both in myself and with my cat’s asthma.”

I was fortunate to have a chance to test drive the filter for this review.

The Rabbit Air website is full of great information about air purifiers in general, household air quality, and the different models they carry. Instead of pasting that all here, I really recommend that you go click around. I found the FAQ especially helpful.

What I can tell you is that within just one week of using the filter at home, I noticed my own headaches decreasing in frequency. (I also suffer from oodles of environmental allergies.) I’ve owned several air purifiers and none of them have had an affect like that. I’m actually able to open my windows sometimes without having a sinus headache for the next three days. It’s pretty magical, guys.

My favorite things about the BioGS:

  • This is shallow, but it’s REALLY easy on the eyes. I adore that it comes in different colors. I got the green one to match my house.
  • Unless you have it on the highest fan setting, you can’t hear it. I’m very sensitive to buzzing noises, and my son is too. So quiet is a HUGE bonus.
  • It deodorizes. It even has a nifty display to tell you when it’s detecting odors and pollution. How cool is that? I basically feel like I have a magic robot.

This thing is not cheap. The Rabbit Air is an investment for sure. (PS, save 20% with code MAMA20MA2.) If you and/or your children suffer from allergies or you’ve noticed that your indoor air quality just sucks, the investment is totally worth it. While I’m not a doctor and I can’t promise miracles, I can tell you that I was able to stop using Nasonex after I started using the Rabbit Air. For me, that’s a savings of $30 a month, and that’s going to add up. So, in the long run, the investment would be worth it for my family.

If you have severe allergies or you’re looking for a unit for the office, Rabbit Air also carries an uber sleek MinusA2 model. (It’s as sexy as an air purifier could possibly be.)

Your Mama Loves $5 Tee Shirts

Threadless is having a ginormous sale right now. This makes me happy, since I always get Threadless tees as Christmas gifts. I’d totally rather pay $5 than $15.

A word of caution on Threadless tees: If you’re buying kids sizes, size up. Their default brand runs really small. The American Apparel sizes are better, but still run a little small. Same goes for the girlie tees. When it doubt, take actual measurements.

Check out the oodles of Twitter tees in the $5 section. So cute. I’m tempted to get myself a hoodie this year too.

What’s your favorite Threadless design?

Your Mama Loves GlassesUSA

A few weeks ago, I had the opportunity to order a free pair of discount  eyeglasses from GlassesUSA.com.  I’d never purchased any sort of prescription contacts or prescription glasses online before. (I figured it would be a hassle.)  It ended up being super simple.  I just had my eye doctor print my prescription, I scanned it, and I emailed it in.  My prescription lenses turned out perfect.  They also carry cheap prescription sunglasses, and I’m considering ordering another pair for the times when my allergies make it impossible for me to wear contacts.

The pair I chose was around $40.  This is less than half what I normally pay at the local glasses chain.  For such a great price, I kind of expected cheap eyeglasses, but when they arrived they ended up being nicer than the pair I paid $120 for a few years ago.

The site has some fun tools for shopping for glasses.  (If you’re like me, you agonize over the shape.)  You can upload a picture of your face and test out cheap eyeglass frames on the picture. Sort of like those old hairstyle things you used to be able to do at the mall.  (Fun!)  I’ve never felt fashionable in my glasses, but the cute cheap designer eyeglasses made it totally more fun to shop for a pair.

In addition to carrying designer prescription glasses (like Nike prescription glasses, which I didn’t even know existed) they also carry cheap reading glasses.
