Gail Carriger's Latest Parasol Protectorate Novel Released

Yesterday my copy of Heartless arrived in the mail.  I’ve been addicted to Gail Carriger’s fun and quirky paranormal romance series ever since my friend Lauren recommended the first, Soulless.  They’re sort of like Jane Austen on crack, with fun wacky side characters and a clever, full figured lead who knows what she wants.  Sometimes, books with a strong female lead go over the top, but Alexia retains goofy, moody qualities that I can relate to.  (While being a much bigger badass than I am.)

Carriger’s novels have a healthy, sex-positive feel (the erotica isn’t super explicit) and feature LGBT side characters.  This is something I appreciate so much from a mainstream series.

The series is kind of like Twilight for grownups, with a lot more snark and far more puns.  The setting is sort of Victorian steampunk.  Highly recommended for a fuss-free summer read.  Start with Soulless.
