Last month the folks at Jim Henson Company sent us a review copy of Sid the Science Kid: Weather Kid Sid. My son went BANANAS for this DVD, folks. He asked to watch it every day. He still wants to watch it every day or so. He watched it in the car when we drove for four hours to the space shuttle launch. He says “super dooper snooper” all the time. He’s hooked.
So what do I think? I think the voice acting is great (very “Muppet-esque”). I love the musical numbers, even if they’re not exactly fodder for my iPod. I love that my four-year-old learns from Sid and remembers what he learned. In this DVD, the episodes are all centered around weather, including sun safety. (A topic near and dear to me.)
While I don’t think kids can learn everything they need to know from educational DVDs, I prefer shows that have either really good music or a message and some facts when I’m sticking my son in front of the TV. Sid the Science Kid totally meets my personal “what constitutes educational TV” needs.
Right now Weather Kid Sid is on sale for under $13 at our affiliate, Amazon.com.
