Swim diapers are a huge waste of trash/plastic/resources. They are completely non-absorbent, instead serving only as a barrier between the poop and a public health issue. Since I’ve been cloth diapering since day 1, they’re generally frowned upon in our household. We usually go with a simple diaper cover under a normal bathing suit unless some sort of swim lesson or public pool requires otherwise.
When Bambino Mio introduced their new swimsuit with a built-in swim diaper, I knew I’d love it. They sent me a green one to try with Piper, and it was so easy and cute – I’d definitely recommend it for its versatility and environmental friendliness.
The fabric choices are limited, and I really wasn’t in love with either the red or the green, but the style is cute with a little skirt. Very girlie. The fit was a little off – Piper is tall and chunky, and the suit was short and even chunkier – but not enough that the benefit of the built-in diaper didn’t outweigh.
It was so easy to just slip the entire suit on and off – no messing with disgusting slimy swim diapers. Now, I have to say that we got lucky the few times P has worn this suit – she hasn’t poo’d in it yet. But, the waterproof lining and tight waist and thigh elastic looks like it’ll hold up to an explosion if it had to.
I only wish Bambino Mio started making this suit when she was younger as the sizing only runs up to 27lbs – and Piper is now outgrown the suit (these photos were taken just one month ago, when she was on that cusp).
The suit is available in a lime-ish green and red fish print, both with a little skirt, at Bambino Mio. And, if you’re into the cloth diapering thing but don’t have a little girl, they also sell cloth swim diapers to use under a normal bathing suit. These diapers will meet any swim-diaper guidelines at public pools or swim schools. I’d suggest getting two in case one is soiled while in use.

Most thanks to your delightful blogging site. I extremely are fond of it and will probably be re-visting to take a look at a little more.
