We’ve been a pet-free household ever since we learned that my son was highly allergic to cats. While I haven’t missed the day to day maintenance of pet ownership, I’ve missed having, well, pets. When Wild Creations offered two African Dwarf Frogs for me to check out and review in an EcoAquarium, I was like FROGS IN THE MAIL? YES PLEASE.
Actually, first I spend a long time on the Wild Creations website learning about African Dwarf Frog care and how the EcoAquarium works. Ever since I killed like 30 fish in college, I’ve been really hesitant to own anything aquarium-related.
Turns out the frogs require very little maintenance. Feeding twice a week, changing water every couple of months, and no filter necessary thanks to a unique type of gravel and a living plant? Sign me up.
I kind of expected the frogs to be dead when the package arrived. But they were totally healthy and alive and surprisingly energetic. (You need to make sure you’ll be home when the package comes, and you need to have at least a gallon of room temp spring water on hand.)
I got the frogs for my son, but he didn’t dig them. (He’s four.) So now they’re my desk pets. I love them. They’re super cute, very active, and have even learned to go to the surface of the water when I tap the tank to feed them. They’re so cute! These aquariums are perfect for a kid’s pet, a classroom or for an office. I wish I’d had them all the years I worked in dull, lifeless cubicles.
The frogs and their habitat are also very affordable. The jewel starter kit is about $40. I’d actually recommend this over the $30 Classic Kit that I have, because it’s slightly bigger. My frogs seem somewhat cramped and I’m thinking about buying a jewel tank to upgrade their digs.
I’m telling you these guys offer me so much entertainment. Between floating in weird yoga poses, hugging each other and digging around in the gravel, they’re super funny to watch. This is perfect pet if you’re super lazy like I am.
You can learn more on their YouTube.com channel.
Discount Alert
Use code “BLOGGER” (case sensitive) to get $10 off the Jewel Starter Kit until July 31st. That makes it only $29.99. I checked my local pet shop and couldn’t find a kit anywhere near this price.

K, I’ve never wanted anything that lived in a cage or an aquarium, but dammit if you haven’t made me think about getting frogs.
Now I wanna win an aquarium with two fish and I’d add a snail, cause really? who doesn’t want a snail. (btw, that’s what I learned on their site.)
I learned a lot to be honest. I learn about snails, I didnt know that snails could live as long as they can and that they were both male and female.
I also learned about the living gravel. How it works as a natural filtration system for the water, constantly filtering, cleaning and conditioning the water.
That is only two things that I learned!
I dont really have a favorite type of pet. I am a animal lover. I have had dogs, cats, mice, hamsters, sugar gliders, and the list can go on. Not one certain one is my favorite over the other.

Wow! Finally a suitable pet for me! I love dogs, but the care and maintenance needed is just too time consuming. As if I don’t have enough to keep myself busy as is.
