This year when the Winter Olympics started, I “let” my three-year-old stay up for the opening ceremonies. He had approximately 500 questions about the pageantry and performances and sports clips. Right around then, Anchor Bay Entertainment offered an advance copy of the newest Wow! Wow! Wubbzy! Go for Gold DVD for our review. Since it pertains to sports and competition, it felt was really appropriate and we checked it out.
We don’t catch much Wubbzy around here so my son wasn’t familiar with the characters. Despite that, he sat through the entire 82 minute DVD absolutely riveted to the stories. I didn’t pay much attention or I might have been interested in the guest stars, Michelle Kwan and Tiki Barber. The truth is, I rarely pay attention to kids shows unless bands I like are on them. But I was really excited that this DVD gave my son the chance to learn about competition and sports in a really preschooler-friendly way.
He’s asked me to watch it since then, which is always a good sign for us. I definitely recommend checking this one out if your child doesn’t know much about sports and you’d like a kid-friendly foundation to talk about competition and playing fair. (Also, in case you were wondering, Twitter has informed me that Wubbzy is a boy.)

Favorite Olympic sports: gymnastics and ice skating (I’m so original). My 2 yr old is obsessed with Wow! Wow! Wubbzy! She always pretends that she is Widget. I guess if she is going to emulate some stupid cartoon character from Nick Jr., Widget isn’t the worst option she could choose.
My favorite Olympic sport is Speed skating. I am just mesmerized by it and Apollo Ohno makes it even better to watch.
