Your Mama Likes EcoSMART Bug Spray (but not the smell)

Ecosmart sent me a can of Ant and Roach killer last month.  The timing was great considering the epic infestation of sugar ants in my bathroom and kitchen.  Between last month and now, I haven’t seen any roaches to try to kill.  Which is awesome.  Once the rainy season kicks in I’m sure I’ll be seeing them every few days and screaming and crying about it.

Anyway, Ecosmart is made up of plant based stuff (like essential oils) that naturally kill bugs.  While you wouldn’t want your kid or pet to mainline the stuff, it’s safe for kids and pets.  MUCH safer than chemical bug spray. When it comes to insect repellent, this is really important to me.

Unfortunately, the blend of plant oils and whatnot that make this bug spray effective also make the odor EXTREMELY strong.  It doesn’t smell like horrible chemicals the way normal roach spray does.  Instead, it has a sharp wintergreen smell.  The smell isn’t awful but it’s super strong.  Just a brief spray in my bathroom made that entire side of my house smell minty.  If you have an aversion to the aroma, you probably want to stick to using it in a super well ventillated area.

So, did it work?  The bug spray killed ants immediately on contact.  Since I personally hated the smell, I didn’t use it in a preventative way too often. Based on how dead it made the ants, I’m guessing it would also kill the crap out of a roach.

I went ahead and continued using borax-based (also safe) ant baits as a double team effort and my ant problems cleared up in four weeks.

This is the best roach spray review ever. For real. Also, I apologize for being a tremendous douchebag.

    Love you.

Yes mainlining is not a great idea. I like the idea of the natural oils, though. The thing with natural, plant-based products though is that lot of plants are poisonous. Just because it’s natural doesn’t mean it isn’t harmful- arsenic is natural. I remember once when I was an obnoxious kid someone ate something dirty and told me that “God made dirt, so dirt won’t hurt.” I said that God also made uranium.

I’m here via The Bloggess— I love this line: “Based on how dead it made the ants, I’m guessing it would also kill the crap out of a roach.” Either that, or you’d always know where the roaches are since they’d smell like wintergreen. They’d become little walking air fresheners, FTW!

We always have a huge ant problem, so I’d love to try this. I’d also be interested in the insect repellent.
