Your Mama Wants a Yarn Bowl

I knit.  No seriously, I do.  I’m TERRIBLE at it, but I knit.  And I love it.

What I don’t love is when my yarn rolls away like something out of a cartoon.  I don’t have cats, but I do have kids who like to take fluffy, nice yarn and toss it all over the room.

So, your Mama wants a yarn bowl.  A yarn bowl has a hole or notch that you thread your yarn through so it basically feeds you yarn without the ball rolling away.  I think it would also help with maintaining tension.  (Apparently this is good for people who are good at knitting.)

I actually got one for my sister-in-law for Christmas, and I can tell you that they are super super cute.  Because you can find so many variations on Etsy, I’ll link you to the search and not on individual shop.  Look how cute they are!

If you have a knitter in your life, I think this would make a really thoughtful gift.

Pretty cool. I’m looking at my big ball of blue yarn, which I actually rolled to make into a ball, so I can try and learn how to crochet. I don’t know if my ball (it’s pretty big) would fit into the bowl you’ve shown or not, but I think I’m going to keep on the outlook for a yarn bowl now too. I never knew about them, so this is great info, thanks for sharing it.

This is very cool. Never seen anything like this at the knit shops, but would definitely help keep yarn cleaner.

As the recipient of the aforementioned yarn bowl, I can vouch for its awesomeness. Mine balls were always rolling across the floor and then the dog would chomp it and it would gain abt 50 gazillion dog hair fibers…but now it’s all protected and cozy in its snazzy little house.

Wow! I just found this doing a little bit of research. That’s my yarn bowl. Thank you for using my photo and pointing out the joys of a handmade bowl. I’m a bad knitter too, but I like to think a good yarn bowl helps.
    Thanks again,

I have made knitting bowls (yarn bowls) for about a year now. My biggest issue is with warping where I cut the scroll. Perhaps I need to throw them thicker?
I’ve made them with lids too – to keep out kitties and kids!
I like the one in the picture – nice scroll handles.

Hello, I just had to write it down that this specific site’s template is actually pretty nice according to the way I realize things.
