This Winter, we’ve been cooped up a lot. (Yes, even in Florida.) To avoid having the TV on all day I’ve been putting music on in the evenings. I call it dance party time. Or musical dinner time. Basically anything to not have to watch Miss Spider’s Sunnypatch Whatever it is with the super creepy dad spider and his evil zombie face.
Anyway, here are some of our recent tunes:
Our family favorite is currently All Join In by Kenny Loggins. I grew up listening to Kenny Loggins, so I’m kind of naturally inclined to like him. My husband only knows him from Footloose. But we both agree that the entire album is great to listen to, and my kids love it. Even if my three-year-old inexplicably calls it “all a-scoop-a now.” It’s a great mix of kids songs, Beatles classics and some folky fun. I can’t recommend this one enough for mellow family music time. Unfortunately, it’s not available until March 9th. (We got to try out a preview.) Keep a look out for this one or pre-order on our affiliate, Amazon.com.
I have to give a “dude this is cool” shout out to The Not Its, even if their name becomes something entirely different and rather unfortunate if you cram the two words together. This kids album has a pop/punk feel that won’t put hip parents into a Wiggles induced coma. The songs are probably more appropriate for ages 4-8 than for my three-year-old, but he’s warming up to it. Right now I think I like the album more than he does. I love their website. They’re also available on Amazon.com.
Funky Kidz was sent to me for review. While it’s my lease favorite out of these three, I still dig it. The album has a New Orleans jazz tone and really has a unique and awesome tone compared to other kids music I’ve heard. World Beat is really popular with kids stuff, but this album focuses uniquely on the regional jazz sounds of New Orleans, while sticking with songs kids and parents know. I dig it, and my parents enjoyed it too. Three generations for the win! You can listen to samples at our affiliate, Amazon.com.

It’s a wonder kids loves Kenny Loggins since lately, music are hippy that kids love to dance along. I love Kenny Loggins, will always be.
