Your Mama Loves a Good Sale

Hi, it’s Laurin. I’m new here at Your Mama Reviews. Wednesday is going to be fashion day on YMR. I’m a wee bit into fashion and hopefully will turn you guys on to some great finds and good buys every week. I’m starting things off with my favorite way to shop.

I love a good sale, but with my work schedule and taking care of my twin 7-year-olds, getting a block of time to shop at the mall is rare. It also irritates me to paw through tightly packed racks of sales clothing. Not fun. Luckily, I discovered “secret sale” sites last year and now I am kind of obsessed.

You may have heard of these online sample sales. Sites like Gilt, Ideeli, and Rue La La offer designer clothing and accessories that were once only available to the lucky ducks who live in New York and L.A, where most designers are based. The sales pop up on the sites and last for only a short time, or until they sell out.

My weakness is designer jeans and over-priced t-shirts, and there is no way I could afford to pay retail very often for my favorite brands. These sites sell the good stuff, and the discounts are huge! I see 90% off sales every day.

Secret sale sites are mostly invitation-only. They require a referral from a member or a code to join. I am a member of about 15 sites (I told you I was obsessed) and I will be sharing them with you. Once you’re in you receive emails which notify you of the sales happening each day, so you can be ready.

When the sales are about to start, I hang out like a vulture to get my size. Although I cruise mostly jeans and t-shirts – my uniform – there are cocktail dresses, coats, business attire and more. I add great sales I don’t want to miss to my Google calendar so I can log in as soon as the “doors” open. The good stuff goes in minutes.

I put together a list of the sites I belong to, and included a clickable link to join. With a few of them, you need to enter a code or my email address in order to sign up. Most of the sites give a credit of $5 to $25 to the person who refers you, if you join and make a purchase, and some sites give the new member credit as well. After you sign up, be sure to email your referral link to your friends, or blog about it or tweet it so you get the credit, and so on, and so on… Pay the fashion forward!
