I started drinking coffee a few months after having my first child. When I started working back at the office six weeks after I delivered him, the mornings were nightmarish. Coffee soon became my best friend. But I limited myself to one or sometimes two cups a day. To help stay true to that limitation, I refused to buy a coffee machine.
The next Valentine’s Day, my husband bought me a Tassimo one-cup coffee brewer. We hooked it up that night and made Chai tea lattes. The machine became my best friend and our favorite entertaining tool. (Cappucino! Espresso! Lattes!) The machine moved with us twice.
A couple of months ago, I contacted Bosch to let them know I’d be reviewing the Tassimo. (Remember them from the washing machine debacle earlier this year?) The let me know that the Tassimo had changed quite a bit since the old Braun model my husband had purchased in early 2007. They decided to send me an unused Bosch Tassimo (for free to review) from their office closet. Thanks guys!
The Bosch Tassimo machine features major improvements on the original model. In fact, all the “cons” I had already written out for the Braun model were taken care of.
Yay!
- The Tassimo is now much quieter. (It used to sound vaguely like an airliner taking off.)
- The brewer has a small built in light and digital display.
- The water tank is more compact and features an easier-to-use water filter.
- You can add more water at the end of brewing to make slightly more coffee or dilute your coffee.
- The mug/cup stand adjusts so that a small espresso cup doesn’t splash as the espresso brews.
- The machine can be turned off completely while it’s plugged in.
- Perfect if you want to avoid drinking coffee all day long.
- Disks are available for extra large cups of coffee.
Nay!
- Not as much variety as you’d get with whole beans or regular tea.
- More expensive than coffee brewed in a big pot.
I love the variety of T-Disks available, though it’s a pain that I can’t find them in the grocery store. Luckily they carry them at the Target across the street. Sometimes I’ll pick them up at Amazon.com with super saver shipping.

I love the Tassimo more than just about any other appliance I’ve ever owned. Mine ended up getting left behind in Florida when I moved up to IL earlier in the year and I haven’t been able to afford a replacement yet. Hoping one makes a Christmas appearance. :-P
I did a demo of one of the newer Bosch brewers at work a couple of months ago and I have to say it’s awesome. I love the fact that there is no longer a ginormous wait time for the water to heat between cups.
Yeah I don’t even understand HOW it heats so fast. It’s pretty much magic. I ADORE IT SO MUCH.

An individual machine that you may need within your kitchen area to help keep it clean and neat is a dishwasher. I can’t live without my Tassimo. I love the different T-Disk flavors, it works like a charm…what can I say? I recommend it!
I’m not sure the Tassimo would help to maintain your 1-2 cup a day limitation. My best friend had the Tassimo, and he was more addicted to coffee because of the quick and easy flavored coffee cups he could make.

I used to love my one-cup maker, but eventually I just missed a huge mug of brewed coffee, so I traded it with a friend for a straight-up coffee maker.
My husband and I splurged on a hotel for our last anniversary, and a similar one-cup coffee machine was in our room. We had never seen one before, so we thought we must be in the swankiest hotel.
I’m glad this new model is quieter. I had to convince my husband to wait until I’m awake before he can start the coffee.

Our boss invested in one of these for our office kitchen. I don’t know if he knew how effective it would be, but it did make everyone pretty giddy for a couple days. Both the novelty and the caffeine.
Great review. Can you buy one of those reusable disks that you can fill with your own ground coffee? I know that k-up users can buy one. That would take care of your #1 con.

The improvement in the noise level is the key for me. No much point having a snuggly cup of coffee if making it sends you deaf!
Bosch certainly seem to have a knack for building great coffee makers these days. And the prices have really come down. Makes me feel less guilty about getting one!
