A few months ago the One2One Network sent me a Smooshie to review. While my son has been playing with it in the months since, I haven’t gotten around to sharing it here. The Smooshie falls into the category of un-licensed toys that make me very happy for being:
- Creativity-inspired
- Not covered in cartoon characters
- Absolutely silent

The Smooshie is basically a plush body that comes with a bunch of body parts you can velcro to it to make crazy faces and permutations of monster-y goodness. Think Mr. Potato Head but more snuggly.
My son is three and enjoys putting together crazy faces. He named his Smooshie “Kevin” after we saw Up. I keep Kevin and his features in a small bin from Target. Once in a while my son yells “I want to play with Kevin!” and drags him out for facial re-arrangement. He also enjoys sleeping with the face/body without any of the bits and pieces attached. It’s fuzzy and satisfies my kid’s love for all things fluffy and soft.
If your child loves monsters and creative play, the Smooshie is a super inexpensive toy you can build on by purchasing additional pieces and features. If you have a digital camera, I’d suggest taking pictures of your child’s creations so that he or she can see them later.
Joann’s has a whole page of Smooshie goodness. I’ve also found some of the components at our affiliate, Amazon.com. This toy gets a solid handful of enthusiastic thumbs up from me. No mess, no noise, no Dora. Hooray!

Oh, man. Wish I’d seen this with enough time to get it for Christmas. I’ll have to keep it in mind for my girls in the future … it looks totally fun.
I remember when my little brother had problems with the dark – I took an old gym sock, some felt, glue and markers and we made monster named “Mr. Scary” who could help protect him. As we added each element, we discussed how it would help (fangs and claws for fighting ability). This is much cuter and could serve a similar purpose. I love it!
I can’t understand what possesses some people to make that ‘smooshie-lips’ face when taking makeup photos.
