During the past year, I’ve seen a lot of buzz about dangerous chemicals in plastics. When my son was born in November, I got rid of our old baby bottles and bought Born Free bottles. Most of my choices are related to the baby’s feeding gear.
Then I realized that my older son still eats on melamine plates and uses plastic cups. Fail.
When I read about Kinderville on Twitter, I requested a sample to review. Oliver at Kinderville sent me a set of little bites bowls. When they arrived, the first thing I noticed was the cute packaging. (Cute!) I also like the primary colors. I rinsed them off in the sink and gave my son his dinner in one of the bowls right away.
Here’s what I loved:
- These suckers are nice and heavy. When my son scooped his food, the bowl didn’t slide.
- They’re flat! It’s more like a plate than a bowl. Perfect for peas, cottage cheese, pasta, and snacks.
- They’re soft and rubbery. Easy to stack, and they don’t break. The rubbery texture also helps them “stick” to the table or high chair a little.
- Appropriate size for preschool portions.
- My son thinks they’re awesome.
The bowls are dishwasher, freezer and microwave safe. (This is good for me, since I use my microwave and dishwasher pretty much constantly.)
At $20 for a set of four, these are obviously more expensive than plastic children’s sets you can pick up at the grocery store or a big box store. But the fact that they’re silicone and safe makes them absolutely worth the investment. Just think of it this way, they bowls add up to about $5 each. That’s the price of a happy meal. Skip the happy meal and serve some veggies in your cool new bowl.
Kinderville also carries silicone storage jars and small cups for little hands. Look for exciting new products this fall.

I like the diapers! So cute and much better than the prefolded old kind!
I learned the bowls and cups are bacteria-resistant.
I’d serve my 3-year-old some pureed butternut squash. It’s her favorite, but I hate that I have to heat in glass. I feel like I have to watch her like a hawk if she’s got a glass bowl at the table.
