Your Mama Loves Trim Cloth Diapers

One of the hardest things to get used to when I started clothing diapering was the fact that cloth diapers are not as trim as disposables. For a while, I felt like my son had this huge baboon butt. But he grew into them after a while.

dagny01When I’m trying out cloth diapers, trim-ness is still important to me. (Unless it’s nap time. Then I know that bulk means a nice, dry—long—nap.)

The trimmest diaper I’ve used so far is the Promise Pocket diaper from Dagny’s Promise. Mich at Dagny’s Promise sent me a size 2 to try out. When it arrived, I almost fell over from cuteness poisoning. Fluffy blue interior? Mod giraffe print? So. Cute.

I noticed a few key features about the Promise Pocket immediately:

  • Side snaps
  • Colored fleece interior
  • The pocket opens in the front.
  • Super, super trim. We’re talking bikini-cut-underwear trim.
  • The insert is shaped like a long triangle instead of a rectangle.

I have to be honest here, when I saw how trim the diaper was I figured there was no way in hell it was going to be absorbent. But I’ve never experienced a leak with this diaper. The key, for me, is acknowledging that this is a day time diaper, not a long nap or overnight diaper.

dagny02While it looks adorable on my son, I’d be even more enamored with this diaper for a baby girl. The cut is high on the legs and doesn’t look as bulky as other cloth diapers do. Thanks to a bunch of prints, it would be perfect for a girl baby to wear under sundresses. The Promise Pocket doesn’t show as much under onesies as other cloth diapers do.

(Though, with my son, I often like his diapers to show—in fact I match them to his outfits.)

Mich at Dagny’s Promise hand makes all Promise Pocket diapers. Her shop’s stock varies depending on the selection she has available at any time. She’s great about communicating and can go over the available prints and PUL colors with you. (A gallery of available fabrics is coming soon on her site.)

Promise Pocket diapers are priced a little under the “big name” pocket diapers. Because of the unique shape, you can’t add another insert/doubler, so keep in mind that these are not overnight diapers when you’re adding to your stash.
