Your Mama Loves Super Absorbent Diaper Inserts

After I fell in love with Willow Pads nursing pads, I decided to try some of their other products. I use tampons, so the cloth menstrual pads have never interested me—although I think in theory they sound really neat. I’m fascinated with the absorbent fabrics that Willow Pads use, so I shopped around for something else and learned that Willow Pads recently launched a full line of products for babies and kids, called Willow Sprouts.

My son is a heavy wetter, so for a while I was using disposable diapers at nap time to avoid short naps from leaking and wetness. I decided to purchase a Willow Sprouts cloth diaper insert for extra absorbency to use as a doubler in my FuzziBunz diapers. When it arrived, I immediately thought that it looked way too thin to be absorbent. It’s less than half the thickness of a FuzziBunz or Bum Genius insert.

But I pre-washed it and gave it a try the next day. When doubled up with another insert, it barely adds any bulk—which is very nice for me. My son is just starting to get mobile and I feel like bulky diapers impede his crawling and scooting.

willowstore_1501 After napping in his diaper for almost three hours, I was shocked to discover that not only did the diaper NOT leak, it didn’t wick into his clothes at all and he felt surprisingly dry. Apparently the organic hemp terry material is made of magic.

I bought a few FuzziBunz used with no inserts and they’ve worked just fine with only a Willow Sprouts (thin) insert and a small Thirsties doubler. The end result is uber trim and still totally effective.

Maggie’s Soap Nuts look interesting, but the diaper inserts are what I am most interested in. My toddler has begun soaking his diaper every night. It would be nice not to wash sheets and blankets everyday. Thanks for the chance!
