Your Mama Loves Bike Rides with Baby

[Let me interrupt this, my most exciting review ever, to let you all know that this is officially our  100th post at Your Mama!  Go Mamas!]

I am seriously enthused about this review, so please excuse my blubbering, gushing, lavish praise.  It’s just, well, I had this vision of leisurely waterfront bike rides with my new addition and my man – this idyllic, perfect vision that haunted me throughout my pregnancy.  Tacky, lame, whatever.  It’s just, well, we like to go on bike rides.  Our first ‘date’ – just the two of us – was a bike ride out to the beach for a swim.

Beach bike rides are the bestI searched high and low for a bike-along option for my little one.  A trailer?  A seat on the back or front?  Decisions!

After reading many an Amazon.com review, I finally settled on the iBert Safe-T-Seat for my precious.  And let me tell you:  the reviews ring true.  The iBert is the cutest and most shutter-inducing baby product we own.  I think 80% of our photos in the past three months have been of Piper in the iBert.

I paid full price for this bike seat, and I am in no way being compensated for this review (ha! I wish!).  I honestly really love it – and think it would make a fantastic summer gift for a baby shower or for a 1st birthday.

Beach babeThings I love about the iBert:

  • It’s easy to install and to move between our two bikes.  We had to buy an extra ’stinger’ assembly but once they’re installed, the seat just pops onto that piece really easily.
  • It’s well-balanced, and riding with it is not obtrusive.
  • It doesn’t bump my knees.
  • Piper is well supported on all sides.
  • She’s got room to grow, so we’ll be using this throughout her toddler years.
  • I love that she’s up front seeing what we’re seeing, rather than towing behind in an enclosed trailer.
  • It pops on/off easily so we can throw it in the trunk when we take our bikes on the carrier for a ride farther from home.

The iBert installs easily on the stem of your bike – we both have beach cruisers and it fits perfectly.  The hard plastic shell has a cute orange soft pad, and a snap-on bar in the front.  We’ve taken some fairly lengthy bike rides with the iBert, and hardly notice it.  We’re able to point out things to Piper and can see her when she (inevitably) falls asleep.  We are absolutely enamored with this thing.

We started riding with Piper in it when she was 5 months old – as soon as she could sit stably by herself.  IBert recommends 12 months as the minimum, but I couldn’t possibly wait.  She is perfectly supported and stable in the seat – we use it all the time.

Strays download The iBert Bike Seat wasn’t available at any of my local stores, so we ordered it from Amazon.com for $84.99 (and free shipping with Amazon Prime of course).  (Don’t forget to order a helmet for your little one, too – we went with the Giro Me2 Jagged Edge movie download and really, it’s freakin’ adorable.)
