Your Mama Likes Soft Reusable Cloth Diapers

As much as I love my BG 3.0′s (and I haven’t even reviewed them – I’m just a tried and true fan), I still fall back on my good old prefolds and covers when we’re around the house.  They’re so easy – just fold, cover and be done.  In fact, despite my drawer overflowing with all-in-one’s, Adam always always always chooses prefolds and covers when it’s his turn to change the baby.

I own a couple dozen Indian prefolds, and while they work, they’re not exactly the softest or most form-fitting of diapers.  I need new covers desperately (Adam is still squeezing my 18lb 7 month old into Thirsties x-smalls despite the fact that I own 4 other covers that fit her perfectly).

After our All-In-One Cloth Diaper showdown in April, Johanna at Bumkins contacted me about trying one of their new contour diapers and their unique cover.  Of course, I’m up for trying any new diapers so said yahoo!

Rest Stop rip The contour diaper is different than a prefold, but you use it in the same way.  It’s two layers of either cotton or bamboo with a microfleece liner sewn between them, then cut into the ‘contour’ of your baby.  Wide on each end and narrow in the middle.  The liner is only sewn in between the legs where it’s needed, so it wraps around the baby really comfortably. The leg gussets are elastic, so when fitted into the cover, they create a little ‘bowl,’ to help contain their contents.  Lastly, they are one-size so will last until potty-training – making them a wise investment.

The diaper I tried is bamboo and I really recommend it because it is soooo soft, even after drying on the line which makes my prefolds feel like cardboard.  It’s just as absorbent, if not more so, than a prefold.  The bamboo is $2 more than the cotton, but again, I’d go for it.

Bumkins diaper coverI also really enjoyed the cover they sent.  The unique thing about their covers is that they have a ‘vent’ in the back, so the baby can have a little air – important when you live in the sauna that is a Florida summer.   It’s a light mesh with an overlap of PUL so keep clothing dry, but allow air to circulate.

The leg gussets are fitted but not tight, and they are velcro with a double tab for overlapping.  The front has a flap to tuck the diaper under which also helps keep clothes from wicking moisture from the diaper.  They have cute prints and the PUL is soft, pliable and feels like it has a little more ‘give’ then other covers.

This is the mesh 'vent' on the back, uncovered for the photo. While the contour diapers are considerably more expensive than prefolds ($10.95 for cotton; $12.95 for bamboo) they make a great investment because they are one-size. You’d be buying covers anyway – and Bumkins covers

are an average price at $14.95 for white or $16.95 for prints.

Bumkins offers great packages that will save you even more money – on both covers and their contour diapers – making them a wise investment for anyone looking at cloth diapers that will fit for the long-haul.

I can definitely attest to how great the bamboo contours work. I won the Bumkins prize during the AIO showdown and I got the bamboo contour and the cover of my choice. These things will hold a ton let me tell you. I had it on my 2 1/2 yr old and one day he was wearing it I didn’t get the chance to change him before nap and he was in it for nearly 5 hrs. (he decided he needed a 3 hr nap that day) And he woke up to dry clothes and dry sheets. Not one leak. I am totally amazed at how well these work. I would buy more but we are going the aio and pocket route now but i would definitely urge those of you looking into contours or fitteds to give these a try. They are so soft and fluffy. And the covers, OH MY!!! They have some of the cutest patterns, I got the blue retro and I just love it.

    Hello everyone!
I would like to burn a theme at this forum. There is such a thing, called HYIP, or High Yield Investment Program. It reminds of financial piramyde, but in rare cases one may happen to meet a company that really pays up to 2% daily not on invested money, but from real profits.

For quite a long time, I earn money with the help of these programs.
I don’t have problems with money now, but there are heights that must be conquered . I get now up to 2G a day , and my first investment was 500 dollars only.
Right now, I managed to catch a guaranteed variant to make a sharp rise . Visit my web site to get additional info.

I was wondering if you know how well the bumkins contour wash up and how durable they are? Do you think they would last trhough more than one kid? What are the dimensions of the contour diaper?(width between legs, length of diaper from end to end)Trying to determine if these will fit in an xtra small diaper covers and large covers for a real “one size” diaper. Thanks!

Those are really adorable! I know it would look good on my baby, compared to the usual white diapers. Plus, cloth diapers are better for the environment too right?

I was looking for information on cloth diapers and came across your post.

Of the cloth diapers I have found online and offline so far, these ones you are reviewing have the most features by far. The inventors obviously put a lot of thinking into them.

You comments and pictures are much appreciated!

Bumkins rule! My hubby and I are totally happy with them and they have saved us A TON of time with our twins. They’re super easy to use and at least with one of our twins has been put to the torture test. I’ve never seen any kid who wet as much as she does and the Bumkins keeps her relatively dry and comfortable.

I’ve always been a little weary of using cloth diapers, I am getting to the potty training stage and am starting to think that these would be a great option and way to transition into eventually having no diapers. Thanks for all of the valuable information.

The prints on the diaper are so cute and adorable. My little Kassey will surely look cuter in these. What’s I love more about these diapers is that they a vent at the back so the babies feel cooler and lighter. Thank you for sharing these wonderful find.
