I totally love my ERGOBaby Carrier
. I got one after having my second child even though I already owned a Snugli, a Maya wrap and a Maya sling. The Ergo beats those competitors hands down – for more than one reason.
The best reason is that my younger son is now 25lbs and I can still wear him in the Ergo for hours and hours and NEVER have a backache, shoulder ache or sore hip. I ruined my back in my early 20s participating in martial arts. I was in Physical Therapy for months(several times) and despite having more good days and bad now, I still can throw my back out by just reaching down to put on a fuzzy sock in the winter. (No joke, I did it in March.)
With the ERGOBaby Carrier, you can also wear your baby in front or back or on your hip. The back carry is great when they are older for hiking and trips to the circus, zoo, or aquarium (which is notorious for making parents ditch their umbrella strollers and either use one of their germ-ridden metal backpack contraptions, or carry your kid the whole time.)
Speaking of the back carry, I also got the Ergo Backpack which attaches to the carrier so if you are trekking about you don’t have to shoulder another bag of all your baby gear with you. Ingenious. Convenient. Perfect.
Your baby is also sitting on his butt, unlike other carriers that crush a boy’s family jewels, especially as they get heavier, or the Maya sling or wrap that tends to cut in to your child’s thighs the tighter you secure the fabric. It’s much more comfortable for them and more natural like you are carrying them with your hands under their rears.
We all know that kids fall asleep in these carriers too, and the Ergo comes with a little hood that snaps up easily in to place to keep their heads from lolling around. It also doubles as a great sun shield and a way to keep people without consideration for personal body space from peeping too close at your kids while they snooze. The hood tucks away in its own pocket when not in use.
Also when your kid falls asleep you don’t have to tug them up and out of the carrier to put them down, still sleeping. I hated that about my Snuggle and Maya wrap. By the time you jostle the kid out you’ve woken him up. No good. With the Ergo you just pop the yoke clip, slide your arm out one at a time and then you’re just holding your child normally and can gently put him down. My son never noticed when I went to take him out of the Ergo after he had fallen asleep on me.
There’s also a little zippered pouch for keys and small stuff. Handy. Overall – it’s worth the money you spend on it. If I’d have known about this one when I had my first son I’d never have spent the money on anything else. It’s fantastic.

How about reviewing jogging strollers? I already bought one, but I bet reviews would help others.
I’d love to win this, as I miss carrying my son, who’s just too heavy for our front carrier. I like how versatile the Ergo is, and found it interesting that founder Karin Frost sewed the original 50 on her own machine, and also that she carried her son until he was around 5 years old.
I’d love to see reviews/comparison of double strollers. We’re thinking of having another one, so we’d need to purchase one of those.

ERGObaby’s baby carrier design supports a natural sitting position for babies, eliminating compression of the spine and hips that can be caused by unsupported suspension. The baby carrier also balances the baby’s weight to parents’ hips and shoulders, and alleviates physical stress for the parent
Oh no, I forgot to put what I learned…consider this an addition to my first comment…I like that they use fair labor practices and I’m jealous that the owners/founders live in Hawaii. :)

I found it very interesting that an outward facing strolling may have a negative impact on your child’s brain development. While this is only the first study done on the subject I think it is still very intriguing and hope that more studies will be done on this subject.
I really liked the “ask your doctor” section and the article called “attachment parenting gone wrong” since that’s sometimes how I fell. I plan on taking the doctor’s advice and introducing a “lovie” item to my daughter.
I think your mama should investigate SwitchFlops! They have kids’ SwitchFlops but they’re even better for moms on the go. I love mine.

Thanks for the chance and for the review. It is always great to hear from a real-life momma about products rather than just what companies tell you about the product!

You should check out the Kozy Karrier. It is our favorite carrier so far. But that is because we don’t have an ERGO yet!

I would love to see a review of more maternity clothes. I have heard of the big ones like Boob and Japanese Weekend (and have pieces from both) but I’m sure there are some great brands out there that might be reasonably priced and still great quality.

I learned on the Ergo site that it isn’t recommended to hold your baby in a carrier that is a front carry but faces looking out (as opposed to towards mom’s chest). It supposedly isn’t as good for bonding and puts undue stress on their backs. Who knew?
I really really wish that you guys would review nursing clothes. Unlike maternity clothes, which we get stuck wearing for a max of a few months, nursing lasts for a really long time. Especially if you have more than one baby and do extended nursing, you can end up lactating for a decade or more.
Nursing bras are well and good- but i really like the shirts, dresses, and tanks that are nursing specific. Problem is they are so incredibly expensive and not readily available in a lot of areas. I’m always hesitant to order something online that I’ve never seen in person and never read a positive review of. Especially when that thing costs a boatload of money. Please please review nursing clothes!!! I’d be willing to volunteer for the job if you need help. :)
I learned from their important notice that they just revised the chest straps and now you dont have to adjust the carrier each time you use it!
I learned they have an Ask The Doctor Forum:
The ERGO Baby Carrier is pleased to announce our association with Dr. Susan Markel, a Board Certified Pediatrician who is skilled in all aspects of general pediatric care. She has been honored by becoming a Medical Advisor at Attachment Parenting International, a non-profit parenting organization that promotes “Peaceful Parenting for a Peaceful World”.

Okay, I know this kind of goes in the opposite direction from the last couple reviews, but how about a Phil & Ted’s stroller? Particularly the Sport or e3 double? Some mom’s, even avid babywearers, love to have a good stroller on hand for exercise or for certain types of outings. I have an e3 and it is absolutely awesome…I particularly avoided other double strollers because of bulk, but this is basically a single stroller with an extra seat. ;)
I learned in the parenting section that babies in outward facing strollers are less likely to talk and laugh because they are less stimulated. Wow, I had no idea!

The Ergo creators have certainly made a product that both benefits the baby and his/her parents. They have developed a product that supports the babies growth and his/her physical and developmental needs. For the adult, they have increased the level of comfort by creating a multi-position carrier to suit individual needs. In addition, you can use this carrier from the time your child is an infant to when they are a toddler. What a great product!!

The product I would like to see reviewed is the Cloudb Twilight Turtle. I have seen the cute starry sleep helper in magazines and would love to see an actual product review by a mama blogger.

I love Dr. Evelin Kirkilionis, philosophy on carrying baby facing outward. I used a sling to carry my son and he always wanted to be tummy to tummy, and hated to forward face and this is probably why, I fully support it!!
I would love to get an Ergo for my sister who is expecting her second child:)

I learned that even a 4 year old can be carried in the ergo comfortably! WOW!

I would like to see a review on the adjustable Balboa sling. Thanks!
Up to 40 lbs HELLOO!!! I could “piggy back” my 2 year old while I push my 7 week old twins in the stroller. Id buy one if I had the cash but I don’t. Hoping to win one.
I learned that backpack style type carriers are suitable for babies 6+ months that are able to sit up on their own – I wondered at what age you were supposed to start putting kids on your back as well as in front. Thanks!
great carrier backback
I learned that a lot of certification goes into making “real” organic products. I am very impressed!

Guess I haven’t done enough research into baby-wearing, because I didn’t know that it might be unhealthy/unsafe to let your baby dangle by its crotch! The Ergo Baby site is amazing, chock full of parenting information provided by professionals – refreshing to see a commercial company that is not simply interested in getting you to buy its products. I will definitely be going back to the site as a reference tool.
I learned that the Ergo eliminates compression of the spine because of it’s natural sitting position.
With my first child i tried using a carrier but didnt find one that was both comfortable for me and the baby, this one looks different
I learned that a recent study found that babies riding in outward-facing strollers are significantly less likely to laugh, “talk”, and positively interact with their caregivers than those in strollers facing the pusher.
i learned Low Impact Fiber Reactive Dyes have very high absorption to cotton fiber and consequently use less dye stuff.
I love that the website incorporates information provided by professionals. It even has a section called “Ask a Doctor” — very cool!
I have a terrible back and this seems SO much more supportive than the other carriers out there. I will definitely need a carrier (or two), as I’m expecting twins. And my daughter is 17 months old. It’s too hard to put everyone in a stroller, so my plan is to carry at least one baby.

I learned from the ErgoBaby website that co-sleeping and bed-sharing were not the same thing. I also learned about the developmental differences between forward facing stroller babies and caregiver facing ones.
I was interested t o learn that the movement of carrying your baby stimulates neurological development and regulates their temperature and heart rate. This is facsinating
I learned from the website that you can now get a sport ergo carrier. That is made of lighter more breathable materiel.
I would so LOVE to win this! I learned that the Ergobaby recommends a weight limit of 40 pounds for its carrier; however, the carrier has been tested up to 90 pounds.

Is it possible to use two waist extensions with the carrier?
ERGObaby recommends the use of one ERGObaby waist extension with a carrier, as two compromises the integrity of the carrier.

For a long time, our son would only sleep if he was in bed with one or both of us. We got lots of flack for this but kept arguing that our Western culture was practically the only one that didn’t do this. My husband is from the Philippines so didn’t see a problem wiht it at all. On this website, I learned “95 % of the world sleeps with their baby. In countries where co-sleeping nearly universal, such as Hong Kong and Japan, SIDS rates are among the lowest on record.”

ERGObaby’s baby carrier design supports a natural sitting position for babies, eliminating compression of the spine and hips that can be caused by unsupported suspension. The baby carrier also balances the baby’s weight to parents’ hips and shoulders, and alleviates physical stress for the parent.
This alone is a godsend! sunnykat82@hotmail.com
The ERGO Baby Carrier was initially developed out of a personal need when Karin Frost, our owner and designer, had her son in 2001
I’d love to see a review of adiri bottles.
i didn’t know you carry your child in the different ways.
Carriers evenly distributes the baby’s weight on the parent’s body
I learned that the ERGObaby’s baby carrier design supports a natural sitting position for babies, eliminating compression of the spine and hips that can be caused by unsupported suspension.
I’m now following you!
The weight limit on the ergo is a whopping 90 pounds!!!
I learned that babies in forward facing strollers don’t communicate as well (as babes who are carried & such!)

Just followed you @growingreenbums, RT, I learned more about Positive Discipline. I definitely agree, I always try to figure out the deeper reason for the behavior, communicating to them with words and signs to help them through their frustration or whatever they are going thru!
Learned about positive discipline!
I enjoyed learning about the hip carry. I’m a visual person, so a pic is worth a thousand words.
I’m glad ergo posts about their factory in China, although I think the “naptime” is a bit odd.
“Only workers 18 years old and above are accepted to work in the factory. The total factory work force is 100. Some of the workers come from Northern China. The majority, however, live near the city and neighboring areas. These workers are reimbursed for their transportation expenses and housing assistance is provided for workers who have to rent their lodging. Workers are required to wear protective clothing (uniform/lab-gown/masks) during factory operations. Technicians on a weekly basis check machines and equipment.
The factory has high standards that ensure care, honesty, fairness and respect. Workers are paid a fair wage, and are paid by the hour from 9 am to 5 pm Monday thru Saturday. There is a lunch break and a one-hour naptime mid day. Benefits are overtime pay, holidays, and bonuses. They are allowed one day off every week. They also receive cash incentives and bonuses during the Spring Festival.”
I learned that babies riding in outward-facing strollers are significantly less likely to laugh, “talk”, and positively interact with their caregivers than those in strollers facing the pusher.
I learned that there is an official attachment parenting organization.
I learned about websites that I hadn’t previously visited – jet with kids
I loved learning that the ERGO Baby Carrier is pleased to announce it’s association with Dr. Susan Markel, a Board Certified Pediatrician who is skilled in all aspects of general pediatric care.

I found this explanation very interesting (and a little sad considering the state of the country but that is another matter) – ERGObaby has visited our China factory many times and we are satisfied that the conditions under which the workers labor are similar to those of workers in such factories in the U.S. We would certainly prefer to produce ERGObaby products in the U.S., however, the price point would be so much higher that our products would not be available to the average parents in our country. We believe baby wearing is extremely beneficial to both the child and the parents that we must maintain its affordability.

I love the Ergo carrier! My SIL just got one because I had been telling her for a few months that she absolutely needed this one! I was checking out the site and found it very interesting (and awesome!) that Karin(the creater) sewed the first 50 baby carriers on her own machine until the demand motivated having it manufactured and sold on her website. Wish I was motivated and creative enough to do something like that!

I have heard about and seen the Ergo Carrier from my SIL, but I have not really visited the website until now. I learned a lot about their labor policies, as well as how the company started early in this decade. As I am pregnant with my third child in less than three years I am hoping to use an Ergo Carrier this time around. I have used other carriers before, but have found them to not be very comfortable after wearing them for a short time.
I learned that children can begin signing as early as 6-7 months
I learned that a child can begin signing as young as 6 to 7 months of age
“Sign With Your Baby”
I highly agree with that. Allowing your child communication before they are able to verbalize their wants and needs. It is a great concept that is not only easy for you to learn, but for your child to learn as well. The greatest thing about it, is it isn’t needed to be taught as early as 3 months, but even can easily be taught at one year. Every child benefits from this practice!
It’s funny, I have a carrier and my son always sucks and bites on the straps and I never knew there were sucking pads for this purpose! I would love to win one as ours is getting a bit old…
I read about positive discipline…very interesting! I learned a lot!
