In December, I bought my grandmother a keepsake journal from Sand Dune Books. Sand Dune’s “Between Me and You” journals are meant as gifts to be returned once they’re full. I found the questions, like “What do you remember most about being a kid” poignant and important. My grandma is in her 70’s, and there are so many things I haven’t asked her. So many things I want to know.
She seemed a little intimidated by the gift—since her handwriting is bad. But I asked her to take her time and answer as much or as little as she wanted.
I decided to get one for my Grandpa as well, for Father’s Day, but he passed away unexpectedly two months ago.
I wish I had spoken to him more. Gotten questions and answers down on paper.
What I like about the “Between Me and You” books is that they ask simple questions, and some inventive ones. I also like the plain design. Nothing too frilly or fancy.
What I don’t like are the rigid titles. I have a “Papa” and my mom is a “Grammy” and I wish you could customize the names. (I especially don’t like “Between Me and You Honey.” If my husband calls me Honey, ever, I might throw up in my mouth a little.)
That being said, these are the nicest journal keepsake gifts I’ve found, and I did a lot of searching. They’re a nice portable size as well—perfect for tucking into a tote or even keeping in the car.
“What kind of music did you like as a teen.”
“Is there anything I might be surprised to learn about your childhood.” The Price of the American Dream II divx
A keepsake journal makes a great birthday, holiday, or graduation gift. The “Honey” version, if that’s a pet name you can deal with, would make a wonderful bride or groom gift. I plan on buying many more of these for my loved ones.
