Your Mama Loves AppleCheeks Cloth Diapers

My original stash of diapers – my humble beginnings, if you will – includes 24 unbleached Indian prefolds and 4 Thirsties covers in varying gender-neutral colors.  Oh – and one splurge on a Bum Genius 3.0.

I’ve come a long way since then.  My stash now includes all manners of AIOs, pockets, fitteds, and covers.  I still go back to the prefolds now and then, but I like variety in my day.

Gotta love fluffy bum! When we tested the  All-in-One diapers a couple weeks ago, a new Canadian contender in the cloth diaper market called AppleCheeks contacted Your Mama to offer their revolutionary cloth system for us to try out.  Of course, I’m up for any new fluffy mail – especially something I haven’t used before – so I said sure.

Look and Feel

The AppleCheeks system includes a PUL cover lined with super soft fleece, and either bamboo or hemp foldable inserts.  The cover has a pocket so you can use it like a pocket-diaper or as a standard cover, depending on if you want to reuse the cover.

The colors available for the covers are all very cute – bright and bold.  I have my fill of pale pink or yellow (mostly yellow) and really prefer the brighter colors.   The covers feel fantastic – soft and stretchy.

The bamboo inserts are incredibly soft, as bamboo always is.  They win the soft competition.  But the hemp insert – hoooboy. That thing will soak up a day’s worth of pee, I swear.  Hemp is incredibly absorbent and even though it’s not quite as soft, it’s ridiculously effective.  Both inserts are thinner and softer than prefolds – hands down.

gotta love those snaps!Fit

The AppleCheeks people sent me a size 2 (they only make 2 sizes so you don’t have to keep buying new covers) for Piper, who is now almost 6-months-old and probably around 16 lbs.  It fits her wonderfully and has never leaked – even a bit.  The leg gussets get nice and tight, and the inner fleece actually encircles her thigh so its really nice and soft.  The diaper closures are snaps, so of course I can alter the waist or legs however I need.  The PUL is so soft and stretchy that I can really pull it tight around her.

The inserts fold up like prefolds but are so much thinner and trimmer.  They function like prefolds, but feel so much better. They dry really quickly on the line or in the dryer and don’t lose shape or form.

But do they work?

Yes, they work wonderfully!  If I didn’t have a drawer full of diapers, I’d definitely be ordering more of these. I really like that I can use them like prefolds/covers or I can stuff them up like pockets for travel. They’re versatile and comfortable.  I may just order a few more of the covers as soon as Piper grows out of those that fit her now.

Overall

I really like these diapers. They work well and are affordable.  They’ve only recently become available in the US, but hopefully more of the CD online shops will pick them up soon.  Their ‘kits’ are really great for newbies.  In fact, comment to win one below!
