Your Mama Loves All Natural Body Products for Baby

When I first found out I was pregnant last April, I couldn’t sleep.  I, like many many other new mommies-to-be awoke each morning at the crack of dawn, loaded with questions, brimming with excitement.

I started joining forums left and right; eager to connect with other newly pregnant mamas, due in December 2008.  I didn’t stick with them all, but I did find the American Pregnancy Association’s boards Anna and the King the movie , where I could not only commiserate with my due date buddies, but learn all about cloth diapering and breastfeeding.

Here’s where my worlds collide (pay attention).  A few weeks ago, I reviewed the Spotted Box.  In that review, I mentioned how enamored I was with the Sudzy Baby lotion and salve that was included in the box.  Lo and behold, the brains behind Sudzy Baby – April – is an APA mommy.  Specifically, she’s the April who provides laundry detergent, lotions and potions to like everyone else on the APA cloth diapering thread.   Not only that – but she lives no more than 30 minutes from me – on the other side of the Tampa Bay area.  Small world.

April is a mom of four who started making body products for her son’s eczema almost 6 years ago.  She still works from home and uses all natural ingredients for everything.   She learned about herbs and oils from an herbologist and spends a lot of time researching her formulations before she makes a new product.  What’s really great is that she especially enjoy making custom products – you can contact her with a specific skin issue and she’ll make something up for you or your kid’s needs.

First off, I tried the Yummy Lip Balm because, well, I’m an addict.  I make my own, so I’m a tough customer.  April’s balm is smooth going on and is just soft enough to be moisturizing without wearing off immediately.  And at $.75 each?  A total steal.

The Hottie and the Nottie film I’ve also been using the Healing Hemp Balm on Piper’s little red bottom.  She’s teething and has broken out in her first ever diaper rash.  The balm goes on easily (it’s in a deoderant stick form) without getting my hands messy, and I’m confident it won’t irritate her skin because of the all-natural ingredients.

My favorite product she sent it probably the Laundry Powder

, which I requested be scented with ‘Sweet Orange.’  It’s incredible.  Light & citrusy but not too strong.  My diapers smell like summer, and they’re not all foamy and soapy after the rinse cycle like often happens with typical laundry detergent.  Love it.

Piper has pretty decent skin, so I shared the other problem-skin related products with a friend whose son has minor eczema.  Laura, of Muddy Fingerprints Strange Invaders dvd , reported back that she fell in love with the Extreme Cream.  She has been using it on her son’s  cheeks and elbows, where he gets patches of eczema.  She applies it 3-4 times a day and when she doesn’t do it, the eczema comes back again.  She had been using an Aveeno cream, but stopped using that completely.

She’s also been using the Goats Milk Cream on her little Mitchell’s entire body (I also have some of this that makes my own skin SO soft).  I thought it was funny that today, she applied it to one leg but not the other and by the end of the day could actually feel the difference.  Too cute.

Angels in the Outfield rip

The most interesting product April sent – the one I wish I could’ve tested better – was a Breastmilk Cream Kit. Call me crazy – but what an amazing idea. The kit comes with all of the ingredients you need to mix up a batch of cream with your own breastmilk – a perfect solution to eczema or problem skin.  I only wish I’d had 7 spare ounces lying around (I don’t) to make it.  I passed this one on to Laura as well who plans to make it up as soon as she’s pumped enough.  The ingredients are clearly labeled and it comes with a sheet of very clear directions as well as containers for the finished product.  Brilliant.

I’ve been using and testing so many more of April’s products, with wonderful experiences (i.e. diaper rash spray, soothing skin balm, etc) but I can’t possibly gush about them all.   I’m going to go put my order together for more laundry powder as well as her foaming wipes solution now . . .

Sudzy Baby products are available on April’s own Hyenacart storefront for ridiculously low prices (April, seriously – I think we’d all be willing to fork over a couple more dollars for these awesome products!) and also at a fellow APA mama’s new shop, GreenChicMama.com.     I always love to support work-at-home-moms, since I’m one of them, but it’s easy to do when her products are truly great.
