Anyway, I happened to read somewhere about the Mommy Necklace, a super-cute nursing necklace available in a variety of colors and styles. By having something pretty and interesting — but most importantly, on mommy and not two rooms over — baby would be kept on task with the business of nursing.
The necklaces are all handmade by a mom and her small team of helpers. I picked the Lemonade style with a teardrop pendant, which my girls constantly fight over. (Any plans for a twins nursing necklace, guys?) What I like about these necklaces is the variety of styles and colors available. I’m a total jewelry junkie, especially necklaces and earrings, so this was important to me. For each piece, you also have your pick of pendant style.

. The beads are held together by a strong, practically unbreakable thread with a breakaway clasp in the back. I had to tug on this sucker pretty hard several times before the clasp finally pulled open. My babies have never pulled on it hard enough to break the clasp at all. This is perfect for the stronger, older baby that likes to destroy all of your cute jewelry.

I think the one turn-off for me was the breakaway clasp. Obviously it’s a necessary evil, but the clasp is plastic and black, so if you have your hair pulled up, it’s kind of weird to see the bulky plastic clasp back there. But you trade dainty, shiny, cute things for strong, practical, plastic stuff when it comes to jewelry and babies, right?
