Your Mama Likes Cute Sunglasses for Kids

This summer, I’ve been hitting the beach more often.  My son just turned three and he’s finally old enough to really cut loose with full on sand-castle making and whatnot.  He also spends more time in our backyard on our swing set.  What does all this mean?  I’m in a whole new world of outdoor gear and outdoor toys.

cream01Eyes Cream sent us a pair of kids’ sunglasses to try out on my son.  They retail at about $35, which is more than I pay for my own sunglasses.  So I figured they needed to be pretty awesome to justify the price.

cream02When they arrived, I could immediately tell that they were well-crafted and solid.  Nothing about them smacks of dollar store sunglasses or off-brands.  I was able to sort of squeeze them onto my face to test the shading, and I was pleasantly surprised to find that despite the lenses being fairly dark, they didn’t actually cause a dark “tinted” look.  This is especially nice for preschoolers, like mine, who have mild sensory issues and could be completely thrown off by everything being darker.

Because Eyes Cream shades block UVA, UVB, and UVC rays, I felt great about protecting my son’s eyes.

Unfortunately, he didn’t feel great about leaving them on.  Each time we wore them out, he wore them for no longer than thirty minutes.  He’s a finicky kid, so it’s probably just him, but I’ve found that if he wears shades with a neoprene strap, he’s much more likely to leave them on.

The lack of strap is my only complaint about Eyes Cream shades, and it really depends on how fussy your kid is about having something on his or her face.

creamEyes Cream come in some really cute fashion shapes and colors, particularly for girls.  The selection really set them apart from the sunglasses for kids that I’ve found at big stores like Wal-Mart and Target.  (My son has highly sensitive eyes and has always needed sunglasses on particularly hot days or reflective areas, so we’ve done a lot of shopping for sunglasses in his size.)

If you have kid willing to wear sunglasses, I recommend Eyes Cream shades.  They come in sizes up to pre-teen and quite a few varieties.  If your kid is prone to breaking things, losing things, or hates wearing shades, you may want to stick to a cheaper brand until you can trust him/her with a nice pair of sunglasses.  (That being said, the lenses are supposed to be shatterproof.  We didn’t try shattering them.)

Sunglasses are a very important part of sun safety.  Sun damage starts early, so it’s absolutely crucial to start protecting your little ones (and big kids).  And yourself for that matter.  Wear sunglasses!
