Your Mama Fell in Love with Crocs

.!.
.!.

When my oldest son was a baby, a few friends of mine had older kids.  And their kids lived in Crocs.  And they (the parents) lived in Crocs.  And I thought Crocs were the stupidest shoes on the planet.  I read a lot of blog posts and essays that agreed with me, and I felt highly superior in my “I’m too good for Crocs” mentality.

And it was.  A gorgeous rainbow of Crocs.  So I let him try a pair on.  They fit him perfectly.

I noticed a few things within just two days of Crocs wearing:

  • My three-year-old could get them on and off himself.
  • They were very easy to clean with the hose after muddy play outside.
  • Did I mention my three-year-old could get them on and off himself?
  • They stayed on during running, jogging, jumping, playground play.
  • My clumsy son didn’t trip in them.

crocs02Crocs are extremely lightweight.  (And they float in the tub—bonus!) They’re also anti-microbial and odor resistant.  From what I can tell, Crocs really are the ideal shoes for kids.  Now I know why I see them on so many kids.

Keeping Up with the Steins trailer

One thing I love is the variety of color options available.  (Almost 40 solid color options!) In addition to a rainbow of colors, they come in Disney, Nickelodeon, and Sports Team varieties.  We don’t own any of the little jibbitz charms you can add to them, but I see tons of kids wearing them and they look cute.  (As long as there aren’t like 15 on each shoe.  That just looks silly.)

Updated:  We’ve also been told that kids with sensory issues have had good luck wearing these.  My son has Sensory Processing Disorder and low frustration tolerance and these were the first shoes he learned to put on himself.  Learn more about sensory toys and therapy products at ShopSensory.com.

crocs03My son chose a pair of green Cayman’s.  He calls them his “Froggie Shoes.”  Shoe time used to be a major ordeal, and it still is when he needs to wear sneakers.  But he’s great about putting his Crocs on.  He wears them everywhere, and unlike several types of sandals we tried, they don’t cause any red marks or chafing anywhere on his feet.

I have my eye on some of the women’s styles now.  While the Cayman’s aren’t my thing, style-wise, I’ve seen some cute Mary Jane type shoes and ballet flats.  Crocs even makes sexy high heels now.

crocs_electro_rednavyThe Electro is a new version of Crocs for kids.  I have my eye on a pair, since they come in two colors, which looks a little more fashionable.  And I’m a sucker for Lime and Navy together.
