AIO Showdown Week<br>Your Mama Loves FuzziBunz Perfect Size Diapers

I began my foray into cloth diapering with a just two covers and ten unbleached Indian prefolds.   It was enough to make me realize I could handle cloth diapering, and enough to make me realize I needed a much larger stash to make it more than eleven hours between washes.

When FuzziBunz offered to let me test-drive their Perfect Size Pocket Diaper, I jumped at the opportunity to try a higher end diaper.  While FuzziBunz are technically not All-In-One diapers, we’re including them in our showdown since they’re a well-known “name brand” cloth diaper.

In the name of disclosure, I want to make it clear that the first FuzziBunz diaper I tried was given to me to test.  However, I also want to share that after using it for a week, I have purchased nine more with my own money.  Nine.  More.  (I may have a wee addiction.)

Look and Feel

fuzziillustrationFuzziBunz diapers come in twenty colors.  For me, that’s an immediate plus.  I have two sons, and the lack of cute dresses and frills in my life leave me seeking cheap thrills.  Like adorable diaper colors.  I’m also 100% over pastels.  I love that FuzziBunz come in bright, vibrant colors (that don’t run in my wash.)

I’ve used Thirsties wraps, Prowraps and Bum Genius AIO diapers, all of which use a Velcro-style hook and loop fabric to close.  While it makes them very adjustable, it also inevitably (for me anyway) causes a laundry catastrophe.  No matter how hard I try, I end up with a crazy string of diapers that have attached to one another.

FuzziBunz use snaps.  When I remove a soiled diaper, I simply remove the insert and toss both into my pail.  No worrying about closing tabs.  It seems like a small thing, but when you’re on your tenth diaper of the day, it’s nice to just toss it without thinking.  It also saves you the trouble of pawing through day-old pooped diapers to make sure you closed the Velcro tabs properly.

Fit

fuzzi01I prefer sized diapers to “one size” diapers.  However, I started using cloth when my son was about 14 pounds, so I’ve never used cloth on a newborn.  I also know that if he continues to grow at a crazy 95th percentile curve, he could grow out of his size medium diapers long before potty training.

That being said, I am a huge fan of the way medium Perfect Size FuzziBunz fit my chunky son.  Thanks to two levels of snaps, I can adjust for his waist while making sure that the legs also fit him nicely.  The elastic is firm but not too firm, so I haven’t seen any red marks.

FuzziBunz are also very trim.  They feel soft and squishy and don’t interfere too much with the fit of clothes.

But Does It Work?

Unlike disposables, my FuzziBunz have never leaked poop. That being said, I don’t feel that FuzziBunz with the one insert they come with are sufficient for overnight wear or heavy wetters.  Since they’re pocket diapers, you can add doublers, liners, and inserts to suit your baby’s needs.  I usually add one smaller insert if I’m going to be out for a while or he’s about to nap.  Keep in mind that the more you add, the less trim the fit will be.

No matter how much my son wets his diaper, his skin remains dry and clear when he’s wearing FuzziBunz.  I don’t even feel like I need to use wipes on most occasions.  We’ve had absolutely no problems with rashes.

They also wash well.  I do a cold soak/wash, then a hot wash.  I line-dry the covers.  They take very little time to dry thanks to the light fleece lining.  The inserts, by nature, take a long time to try.  They turn out great line-dried or in the dryer, and to remove staining I either use Oxi-Clean or I sun them.  (I’m not sure why I worry about stains on my inserts.)

Overall

Pros:

  • Great colors, lovely softness, easy laundry care, totally beginner-friendly, highly adjustable.

Cons:

  • Requires additional inserts for overnight and heavy wetters.

I reach for my FuzziBunz first after laundry day.  I love the way they feel on the baby, I love the way his clothes fit over them, and I adore the colors.  I recommend these to first-time cloth diaper users, especially if they have babies over six months old and they can start with size Medium.
