Your Mama Loves Magical Sleep Solutions

One of the biggest struggles I’ve had lately is keeping my three-year-old even vaguely quiet while my five-month-old is sleeping.  It seems like without fail, as soon as I get the little guy conked out, the older one starts yelling or “revving his engines” or banging on things.  Instant crying.  Instant angry Mama.  Complete nap Fail.

When I learned about the Sound Sleep for Babies CD, I figured it might help drown out the ridiculous startling noises that are constantly waking the baby up.

But I’ll be honest with you, I was pretty skeptical when I heard that the Sound Sleep for Babies CD was supposed to soothe crying and help babies sleep longer.  I’ve tried white noise from fans and air purifiers and lullaby mobiles and other crib attachments.  Nothing has ever seemed like a magical sleep solution.

I tried the CD the day I received it, just after lunchtime.  I put the baby in his swing and cranked up the volume on my CD player.  My first impression?  Dude, this is weird. Soft, buzzing noises.  A lot of texture to the sound. A vague hint of melody, and then a calm, slow heartbeat.  It sounded a little like something I’d expect to hear while getting a massage at a spa.

About three minutes into the ambient sounds, I realized that my son was being absolutely quiet.  He’d fallen asleep almost immediately.  To top that off, I felt sleepy and relaxed as well.

Then, to my complete amazement, he proceeded to sleep for THREE HOURS.

This was, at the time, the longest daytime nap he’d taken in weeks.  I had to wake him up because my boobs were hurting.

I was sold.

In the weeks since, I’ve continued to use the Sound Sleep for Babies CD, especially during the daytime naps.  It doesn’t always work like instant magic, but when I use it, I find that he falls asleep more quickly and wakes less frequently.

I’ve also used the Sound Sleep for Babies CD to combat what I call the “witching hour,” that time the evening when the kids invariable seem to lose their minds.  Not only does it help keep the little guy calm, it also seems to calm down my three-year-old.  And THAT is magic.

According to the folks at Sound Science, SoundSleep for Babies uses the patent-pending WombEffect™ technology, combined with a proprietary lush, ambient low-frequency soundtrack.

I highly recommend Sound Sleep for Babies to new parents or parents of babies who are napping/sleeping poorly.  Even if it doesn’t work like magic for you, the sounds will soothe and calm you without getting annoying preschool nursery rhymes stuck in your head.  I’ve actually turned the CD on just for myself while digging into particularly frustrating work tasks.

(My husband and mother have both arrived at my house to find the baby sleeping and me hunched over my laptop listening to ambient womb sounds.  They think I’m nuts.)
