Your Mama Likes the Magic Stick

My daughter has *luckily thus far knock-on-wood* not had any issues with diaper rash. I think that’s because 1. she’s cloth diapered 100% of the time, 2. doesn’t have sensitive skin and 3. only poops like once a week so she’s generally pretty clean and dry down there. But every now and then, she starts to get a little red in the crevices.

When that happens, I usually open one of the 10 free trial packets of Boudreaux’s Butt Paste that are stashed in her drawer and hope for the best. But the Butt Paste stains my cloth dipes, smells and looks disgusting. It gets all over my fingers and the changing table as I apply it, and I have to go through two or three wipes to get it cleaned up before I can fasten her diaper.  It’s also not meant to be used with cloth diapers so it leaves a residue that, if used too often, will cause my diapers to start repelling. Not a good quality in a diaper.

Magic Stick Natural Diaper OintmentLast month, the Natural Baby Company sent me a Magic Stick

Razorback

– the no-mess, natural diaper ointment that’s specifically safe for cloth diapers (but also great for ‘sposies).

To be honest, when I received it I wasn’t sure that I would have a reason to test it. But since then, as Piper’s little bum starting getting red, I pulled it out.

There are more than a few great things about the Magic Stick:

  • It smells awesome.  The “proprietary blend of essential oils” – whatever that is – is light, earthy and makes using it pleasant.
  • It’s mess-free.  It’s like a giant tube of chapstick.  More like a gluestick I guess.  I just rub it over my gal’s little ladyparts and put the cap back on.  No more using my entire stack of bamboo wipes just to clean off my hands while she waits.
  • It works!  The redness was gone within a day.  I now use it at every diaper change since it supposedly also repels wetness, so will keep her from getting red again.
  • It won’t stain or leave residue in my cloth diapers.  A very important quality.
  • It’s all natural – I know what (almost) all of the ingredients are.  I like that.

This may not be the right ointment for serious diaper rash – it doesn’t seem quite strong enough.  But that’s why I like it.  It’s light enough to use all the time.

I was put off by the price at first – $13.95 is a little high for an ointment for my babe’s butt.  I’ve been using it for a month now, though, and it’s only a quarter gone.

Plus, the peace of mind that comes with knowing that my ridiculously expensive bordering-on-addiction diaper stash little gal is protected with all natural oils – well, that’s worth every penny.
