Your Mama Hates the Baby Trend Walker

I’d never heard of the whole babies-toppling-down-stairs-in-walkers fiasco, so I was pretty stoked when someone gave us two Baby Trend Walkers

for our girls. Score! That was $70 off my plate.

The walker is very basic. The colors are horrible (navy blue, red, yellow and green) and the pattern is even horrible-er (bears) – overall, a very masculine-looking toy where most toys tend toward gender neutral. It has a plastic tray where baby can put their stuff/snacks. The “fun” part is the detachable toy bar, a squiggly, hard plastic thing that goes across the play tray and has a few plastic toys on it that baby can push around.

I assembled one walker without the wheels on it. I had some trouble figuring out how to expand/collapse the walker to begin with. There’s also a strap with a rectangular metal loop that was difficult to figure out based on the instructions.

The major problem was with the cloth seat. It has three plastic pegs in the front that supposedly slide into grooves and snap into place. Well, this didn’t work. The snaps don’t stay in place and when you try to push one in, another one pops out. This could be a problem, seeing that the seat is where the baby, uh, sits. After some struggling, I managed to get all three pegs inserted.

The girls were pretty stoked on the walker. They liked the plastic twirly toys and seriously tripped out on the plastic bears on either side of the toy bar. But that seat problem? It became a real issue when I lifted the girls out of the walker because all three pegs would pop out. Ugh.

The second major problem ended up being that darned toy bar. Both the girls managed to smash their eyeballs on it! This, friends, was not good.

If I had any doubt about the safety of this walker before, I really gave up on it when I went to pick up one of the babies out of it and saw that all three seat pegs had come unhooked and she was dangling unsecured in the seat.

Sublime video

Major fail.

So, to recap:

  • Ugly design
  • Dangerous toy bar
  • Unsafe seat

Do I need to go on?
