AIO Showdown Week<br> Your Mama Likes Swaddlebees AIOs

One of the things I like most about cloth diapering is that they are cute. I mean- there’s nothing ‘cute’ about bleached white paper products, no matter how many faded pictures of Tigger they print on them. Cloth diapers come in all kinds of different styles, patterns and colors – kind of like lingerie, but for babies. I know they’re under there, but no one else does until I change her. Then, everyone can see that super cute little polka-dot satiny diaper.

I’m talking about the Swaddlebees Snap All-in-One today – and they are definitely high on the ‘cute’ scale.

Swaddlebees AIOLook and Feel

This was, by far, the most luxurious and cutest diaper I tested for this week’s showdown.  The outer material is satiny and smooth; the inside is plush and so soft I couldn’t wait to try it on her.  The design was also really cute – brown with pale pink polka dots?  Adorable by anyone’s standards, I think.

The soft plush is what touches the baby’s skin, but there are layers of high quality microfiber terry liner sewn in behind it for absorbency.  This diaper also is designed with a pocket, so you don’t have to place the doubler directly on the baby – she can stay closest to the soft plush.

I should note that the super-thick middle (the sewn in layers of terry and the plush) make this diaper a slow-dryer.  In fact, when I hang out my dipes on the line, I generally have to put this one back in the dryer for a spin when the others are all dry.

Fit

This is another snap diaper, and it fits nice and trimly, especially between her legs where it’s narrower than others.  It has a high leg rise – which is great for under onesies and little diaper-covers under dresses.  It’s also got a low rise in the waist – below her belly-button – so when I put pants over it, the waistband can actually ride above the diaper so it’s not incredibly tight around her middle.  I love that.

My only complaint on the fit is that the elastic around the legs is almost too loose.  I can tell it’s comfortable, but the diaper leaked a bit around the legs when it got really wet.

Swaddlebees AIOBut Does It Work?

This diaper, being so soft and sweet-looking, works fairly well.  It withstood the most grueling blow-out test the first time I put it on Piper.  It didn’t leak a bit – held the entire blast safely and securely inside the diaper.  Thank goodness – it was a big one.  There was a little more trouble with wetness.

Total Recall dvd

The diaper does leak a little for me around the legs when left on her too long, but not terribly.  I did try it overnight, with a hemp doubler stuffed in the pocket, and that was a terrible mistake.  I picked my baby up at 3 am and she was lying on a huge wet spot.  Our 10 minute nursing-then-back-to-bed session turned into a 30 minute change her, change the sheets, nurse her then back to bed session.  So that was disappointing.  I’ve noticed that when I put the diaper on, the inner liner has a tendency to ride up over the outer liner and sometimes soaks her clothes – so I started paying more attention to that and haven’t had a problem since.

The soft inner liner stains with #2 diapers and doesn’t easily bleach with sunlight alone.  OxiClean took care of it really well, though, and got it back to sparkling white for me.

Overall

The true test of a diaper, when I think about it, is whether I’ll put it on her when she’s wearing an especially cute outfit that needs to last for a number of hours.  Unfortunately, this is not one of those diapers – at least not when we’re going out and I need to trust it for 3+ hours.  I will, however, use it if I know I’ll be able to change her again before it starts leaking, and I have no problem putting it under her cute clothes for a short while.  I love the softness and the fabric and the fit – just wish it worked a little better for her.
