AIO Showdown Week <br>Your Mama Likes Bumkins AIOs

Bumkins cloth diapers offer everything the addict in me really likes about an all-in-one:  a wide variety of prints and colors to choose from as well as countless extraneous accessory products that require me to physically restrain myself from hitting that ‘Add to Cart’ button one more time.

More than just a diaper company, Bumkins offers a ton of cute baby products, including some of the most original Dr. Seuss kid and baby products I’ve seen.  In fact, while the diaper I tested was adorable, I would’ve loved to get one of the Dr. Seuss All-in-Ones – Green Fish?  Sold.

It's pink and circley, like pink circles would be.Look and Feel

Bumkins sent me a bright, cheerful pink circles design diaper to try out.  It’s probably my favorite print they offer (and there are soooo many) – but that’s because I’m not that into the super bright patterns.  Either way, I like this one.  (I would’ve like the Dr. Seuss ones a little more, but they’re also more expensive.  So I’m happy with mine.)

The outer PUL is shiny and soft to the touch, and feels like it works – it just feels like it’ll stand up to wetness and not soak through.  Some of the other AIOs have a softer, more fabric-like PUL that always has me scared of its water-repelling capacity.  Not so with the Bumkins.

The interior is made of some doubled layers of flannel – and believe me – I was skeptical at first too.  Flannel as an absorbent inner layer?  It’s so thin!  And it is – even though the diaper is a little big on Piper right now (again, she’s at that in-between sizes stage), it scrunches up between her legs and wraps around her easily.  It’s really thin and I like that I can feel her little body underneath it – which is simply not possible in most cloth diapers of any variety.  The flannel liner is only sewn in at either end, so it dries really quickly which is a quality I admire in an AIO.

Look at that cute little bum(kins) :)

Fit

This is a bigger diaper than the previous two I reviewed – it rides higher, is wider and longer.  It’s a velcro-closure, though, so I can double it over in front so that it’s pulled tightly around her.  The legs don’t get quite as tight as I’d like them, though, but I’m sure that’s a factor of size and not function.  The thing I don’t like about the fit is how long the diaper is, which means it’s a little droopy between her legs and rides up almost over her belly button.   It’ll fit her for months (years?) to come, so that may work to its advantage in the future.

But Does It Work?

Surprisingly (and yes, the flannel soaker causes surprise here), it works pretty well.   Like any too-big diaper, it leaks a little around the legs when she gets really wet, but it’s held some major #2 explosions.  I feel like I’m jumping the gun rating this thing poorly because of those leaks when it’s clearly a fit issue – and I think she’ll grow into them.

That said, I won’t pull out this diaper if we’re leaving the house because I know it’ll soak through whatever she’s wearing, but I do put it on her around the house pretty often.  If she grows into it, I’ll definitely get a couple more because I really like how thin the liner is and how I can *almost* feel her little bum through it – kindof like a ‘sposie.
