Your Mama Loves the Twilight Turtle

Lipstick full

Until very recently, Peaches was a complete night owl.  For the first two months of her life, she relished in her evenings with me on the couch until 12, 1, sometimes 2 am.  And while I wasn’t working, I have an 8 year old that needs to be dressed, fed, and ready for the bus by 7:30.  Which meant I was tired.  Like any new mom, I was looking for ways to get my baby to bed a little earlier so we both could get more sleep.

(As an aside, she’ll be 4 months old this week and she went down at 7:30 tonight.  So if you’re pregnant or have one younger than mine, know that it does get better.  I could’ve used that knowledge.)

twilight-turtleOne of the most important things I read was to keep her surroundings dark and mellow, so she learns the difference between night and day.  So I stumbled around the house, afraid to turn on even the faintest light or sound for fear of eternally screwing up her body clock and my chance at a good night’s sleep.

Enter: Twilight Turtle

I saw this cool little thing when one of my best friends received one at her shower.  At the time, I thought it was an awesome shower gift – something unique and useful, and certainly not another pack of washcloths.  I wanted one, and when I realized how important a good nightlight is to keeping the house dim but still being able to change diapers, I bought one.  It cost me $23.49 on Amazon.

See, it’s a stuffed turtle who’s back lights up, and it shines a swath of constellations on your your baby’s ceiling. Cool yeah?  It also glows in three different colors – amber, green or blue.   Each supposedly influences different moods, but of course, who can tell these things with an infant.

There’s a simple on/off button on its back that I hit when I go into her room late at night. The glow of its shell is just enough that I can see to change her, and the stars give her something to look at while she’s lying on the changing table.  Then, it turns itself off after 20 or so minutes.

Razorback movie Supposedly, the constellations shining on the ceiling are real constellations – but I can’t imagine you could see them unless you could somehow station the turtle directly in the middle of the room, about 4 feet below the ceiling.  Which is a pretty weird spot for this thing (or anything) to sit.

Regardless, I really like the Twilight Turtle and think it’ll give me function and her something fun for years to come.  Cloud B, the company who makes the Twilight Turtle, also makes a few other sleep-inducing (or sleep-easing) products that I’d love to try (hit me up, Cloud B – I’d love to review the Sleep Sheep).

We love the Twilight Turtle too!!! I first saw it when my niece was a itty-bit. And then they came out with the Ladybug version. That is the one I got for her. And then I got the Turtle for her younger brother. And now my son owns his very own Turtle too.
