Are you a list maker? I’m a list maker. I have long lists that start with laundry, dishes, diapers, feeding children, driving places, and end somewhere near #309 with “take care of myself.”
That’s why once in a while I indulge in products that might not be 100% frugal but are definitely 100% sanity-saving. Every since I was pregnant with my first son, Lush has been my ultimate indulgence. (For bath time, anyway. We’ll get into chocolate another time.)
Lush has store locations throughout the world, but if you can’t find one nearby, they also have a great website. For the first few years of my Lush-iness I only shopped online. Now they have a store about ten miles away and I’m not kidding when I tell you that I got dressed up to attend the store opening. Because honestly, this place is sort of my bath heaven.
Lush products use a lot of natural ingredients, and when they don’t, they’re very open on their labeling. They also use minimal packaging, which is wonderful for the environment (but less wonderful for traveling). If you’re going to be moving/flying/whatever with some of their moisturizers or shampoos I recommend getting yourself a nice glass jar to keep them in.
Here are some of my favorite Lush products:
All That Jasmine Bath Bomb – This shit makes your entire bathroom and LIFE smell like beautiful Jasmine flowers. When I bathe with this sucker, I am instantly transported to the Japanese tea gardens in San Francisco. I have almost drowned as a result of deep, transcendent bath happiness.
Marizbain Bubble Bar – Bubble bars are crumbly slices of awesome that fill your tub with fragrant, soft bubbles. This one also makes your body and bath smell like sweet almond paste, otherwise known as Marizpan, otherwise known as YUMMY IN MY TUMMY. Be careful not to eat your own arm after you bathe with this one.
Dreamtime Bath Melt – When I was pregnant and huge and tired and miserable, I popped a Dreamtime bath melt into my tub and actually got a good night’s sleep. (Until I had to pee.) Thanks to a rich mix of essential oils and what I’m pretty sure can only be described as black magic, this bath melt will send you straight to sleepy land. I wouldn’t use this before operating a motor vehicle.
Lush also carries soaps, shampoos, conditioners, massage bars, exfoliating scrubs and skin masks. (And more!) I don’t use Lush products all the time, but I keep a secret stash in the bathroom cabinet for those nights when all I want to do is turn on some music, lock the bathroom door, and soak the day away. If you’re lucky enough to live by one of their locations, stop by. Their staff members are positively giddy about bath and beauty products and they’re eager to help you find out what’s best for your skin and needs. They also hold a lot of fun evening events with door prizes and facials.

I just spent the weekend with my in-laws and chasing a toddler around their non-toddler proof home, while he is potty training. I think that’s enough to justify many baths!!!! I totally need the Pied De Pepper foot lotion and I love cloves. After two kids? My feet are… Let’s just say they are not a pretty sight!

I need a bath because when I sleep I sleep in layers and I sweat and so when I wake up I stink and I know this for a fact cuz my bedroom smells like a stinky gym-sock filled lockerroom and I try to blame my husband’s farts but sometimes I really think it’s cuz I sleep in all these layers of clothes and it’s really me sweating through the night cuz I like to be under four blankets and three layers of clothes. Lovely Maria gave me the start shaped Rock Star soap two years ago. It took me a year to use the entire bar because it was so amazing I cherished it. I’ve never been so intoxicated by soap.

Here’s my entry: I need a bath because I have two wild boys, one of which is only napping occasionally and they completely wear/stress me out! I need a bath because the fire alarm in my office building went off THREE TIMES this morning, and so I had my stair-climbing workout before I had my coffee. A Floating Island bath melt would help my muscles relax and my ears stop ringing.
I am ashamed to admit why I need a bath. It’s not that I don’t bathe at all, it’s that I don’t bathe enough. I suffer from some mental health disorders that make it very difficult to find enough energy and willpower to make myself ‘climb the obstacle’ of just getting myself into the tub and bathing. I want dreamtime bath melt for a stress relief bath that’s long overdue.

I need a bath first of all because I stink. My husband left this morning to go on some errand and I am stuck with the kids and no option to shower. Second, I started my period and I feel like every last inch of my body is shedding something. The blissful idea of drowning in a Jasmine scented bathtub is heaven. That’s the one I would use, I love the smell of Jasmine. Although the idea of being tempted to eat my own marzipan arm doesn’t sound to bad either. To be honest, I almost don’t care which luxurious bathing implement I use, the idea of a nice, long, hot bath is just that good, no matter which Lush product is making it smell good.
The creamy bubble bath bar sounds cool.
I need a bath with snazzy new bath products because I hate shaving and have to be bribed. The Lush product I like the most is a shave cream Razortorum. I think it is actually a men’s product but it will make yer body smooth like buttah. The lady in the Lush store told me all the strippers in town use it-so you know it has to be good!

I would love to try the dreamtime bath melt. I need a bath to help me relax! I am a teacher and the year is winding down. This means the kids are getting even crazier and I am getting more stressed out! When I go home, the stress doesn’t stop unless I am sleeping or in the bath tub. I need a bath because I’m 35 weeks pregnant, and by the time I can safely have a good, hot, soaky bath, I will have given birth and become mom to two rambunctious boys in the process (I have a six-year-old son already, and this baby is a boy, too). I’m building up a stash of bath goodies for that very purpose, and a Dreamtime bath melt or an Absolute Delight bath bomb would be just the thing!

I need a bath because I cherish some alone me time and it is the most relaxing and enjoyable way for me to escape to have it! With 3 young children under the age of 10 finding 20 minutes to disappear is difficult to do, but needing a bath is a great way for me to justify it! And, I cannot think of a better way to savor it than with using some luxurious products from LUSH! The Butterball Bath Bomb sounds fantastic and the sweet scent of vanilla will intoxify my senses and the cocoa butter will make my skin feel so soft and silky, I am practically bathing right now thinking of it! I’d choose the Floating Island Bath Melt in the bath that I need because I use it to relax! Sometimes I even turn on the overhead fan to blot out all the other sounds coming from the house – for just a little while! I’m sure you know what I mean!
Just close your eyes, now imagine slowly lowering yourself into fragrant steamy water. The warm water surrounds you like a hug. The whole world doesn’t exist for a short time. Lay back and just enjoy the scent…..your muscles slowly softening and relaxing.. the cares of the world melt away. The only sound breaking the silence is the gently splashing in the tub as i sponge warm water over me.
You can totally forget that beyond the bathroom door is a kitchen sink full of dirty dinner dishes…a husband sitting on the couch while your noisy kids run wild…your cat that just peed on your favourite sweater that fell off the hanger and a trip to the laundramat that awaits you because your washing machine bit the big one finally.
Nope…for a brief moment….none of this exists.
THIS is why i need my baths.
