Your Mama Likes OxiClean

OxiClean stain removal reviewAs a parent of multiples, I experience twice the expense, twice the laundry, twice the crying . . . and twice the shit.

Yes, you read that right. I don’t deal with just one blown-out diaper. I get two fabulously slimy, up-the-back-to-the-neck Pamper blow-outs several times a week, sometimes several times a day. With those multiple blow-outs comes twice the amount of clothing that needs serious stain removal. And people, these tiny little clothes cost money.

That’s where OxiClean comes in. Now, I did not go out and purposely buy a stain removal product. That is not like me. It was thanks to my mother (of course) that I “discovered” the magic of this product. She “accidentally” left it next to the laundry detergent, and I “decided” to try it when one of the girls “shit herself” and seriously destroyed her onesies.

The directions are simple: Spray directly onto the stain, rub into the stain, let sit for 10 minutes, toss into the wash. The bottle even claims you can “watch it work!” I didn’t actually do this — I do have two babies and I read that you aren’t supposed to leave them unattended — but I did notice the end result of having unleashed the power of oxygen: no poop stains. No shadow of a poop stain. And a onesie that was as clean as the day I bought it.

Damn.

So, what’s the catch? I’ve noticed that OxiClean works best on cotton garments. The girls have had blow-outs while nursing on my EZ-2-Nurse pillow, which has a lame polyester cover. In a match between the OxiClean and the nuclear-bomb-retardant polyester, the poly’s going to win every time. So, sadly, the nursing pillow cover has the tell-tale orange stains of a poop or two gone awry.

Otherwise, at $5.49 from Walgreens et al., OxiClean more than pays for itself when you salvage garment after garment.

Dude, OxiClean is also the best for poo-stained cloth dipes. After washing the load, take the really stained dipes and throw them in a bucket of hot water and one generous scoop of OxiClean. Let ‘em soak overnight and whala – no more poo stains.

Wash them one more time with your next load, and you can start all over again.

Oh – sun also works amazingly – it’s almost creepy. Just hang those puppies on the line.

I use oxiclean on blowouts too. I actually just bought a small bottle to keep right on the changing table shelf so I can squirt those suckers before I toss them in the hamper.
