The Mannsfield 12 movies I’m usually not one for fads, especially the kind they stick on display at Walgreens next to the magical Japanese foot detox pads and the Neti Pot. (Yeah yeah, I know the Neti Pot supposedly really works, but I’m not man enough to try purposefully getting water up my nose.)
So when a coworker told me that “all the models in LA” use Emergen-C to get over colds quickly, I rolled my eyes and continued blowing my nose and being absolutely miserable. Finally, after a week, he grabbed a Styrofoam cup, filled it at the water cooler, dumped in the packet of Emergen-C, and stuck it on my desk.
I tried it, and as Plex says, I liked it! And this is a big deal. I know that Airborne supposedly works, but in my Mama opinion, it tastes like sugary ass. Cannot stand it. Especially if I’m already sick and could potentially hurl at any time. I don’t have the time or energy to try remedies that are gross and/or inconvenient.
That being said I highly prefer the raspberry version of Emergen-C. The tangerine runs dangerously close to Airborne territory.
I’m not saying it’s a miracle cure, but I got over my cold after that. And more importantly, every since then I’ve taken it every day while the people around me have been sick. With the exception of during my pregnancy (I didn’t take it then) I haven’t gotten really super sick. Sure, I’ve gotten colds, but I’ve managed to fight them off.
My not-a-professional recommendation is to take it only when you’re feeling something coming on, or you know you need a boost. (Like when your preschooler is flinging green snot onto everything in sight.) Otherwise it would get a little expensive.
You can pick up Emergen-C just about anywhere. It’s easy to stick a few packets in your purse, keep them in a kitchen cabinet, or at your desk at work. It fizzes up nicely so you don’t need a spoon to stir it. If the taste is too strong for you, try diluting it with more water than they recommend. And always drink it cold.

Too funny – that’s exactly how I was forced to try it. A coworker just gave it to me and sho ‘nuf – it was amazing. I’m a big fan.
My aunt is selling the creator’s son a house I believe. She said he’s really nice.
I use it not only to prevent colds…but as an excuse to drink more water (since I like the taste of it). Also, in the documentary “Show Business: The Road to Broadway” the lead actress downs a glass of it to help ward off an oncoming illness.
I use the CVS knock-off brand and love it! It comes in little stick packets (like schmancy sugar packets do sometimes) which I like better than the Emergen-C envelopes, and (best part!) is a good few bucks cheaper per box.
Vitamin C is amazing, and has cured my allergies when I was at a school with an outdoor, exotic, arboretum, of all places. But it requires lots and lots of doses.
